Henry Mumba is pastoring a local chuch in Mansa and is also overseeing the Luapula Region. Apart from that he is also the National Overseer in the Apostolic Church in Zambia.
Henry Mumba was among the first graduates at Kaniki – and also among the first to get a Bachelors Degree from Kaniki Bible University College.
“I came to Kaniki simply because I heard the call of the Lord upon my life and I was looking for a place to go. I remember at that time I walked on foot from Ndola town to Kaniki Bible College. I saw the principal, Peter Pedersen, and spoke to him, he interviewed me and after I had gone back they sent me a letter of acceptance.
Some of the things I learnt here was a life of depending on the Lord. When I was here as a student one of the things that we developed as a habit was the aspect of prayer. Those days we literally had to pray trusting God literally for everything we needed as students and that has become part and parcel of my life – the life of trusting the Lord. You know when I left Bible College I went to pastor in a rural area and because of the things I learnt when I was here I was able to go through any challenge by just depending on the Lord. I think the life of prayer here greatly helped me - life of prayer, depending on God and character. The whole aspect of character has greatly shaped my life for ministry.
I think since Kaniki Bible College was started we have seen so many pastors that have been trained here and these are the pastors that later on went and planted the churches. I think Apostolic Church in Zambia grew so much when Kaniki Bible College began operating and producing graduates. It’s from there that we saw so many churches being planted. Kaniki has really contributed so much to the growth of Apostolic Church in Zambia.
I have come back into the Bible College after 26 to 27 years. When I heard it was being introduced I think I was one of the first to apply. I said 'I want to go back to school and be able to learn more so that I can sharpen my skills of leadership'. So far I am able to say I have learnt so much. For a long time I desired to write books but I was without a course in writing. Now a comment of this course is that we must be able to write a book before we graduate. And I tried to write 12 chapters and I think within 3 or 4 months I had finished it. So I had looked forward to doing a course in writing which I was able to do this time when I came back.
People say that within this nation Kaniki Bible University College is very unique; this is the only place you hear students spend so much time in prayer, early in the morning you hear them and they are making noise and of course it is good noise. And that carries along with it the provision of God because it is prayer that gives us breakthroughs in life and ministry. When people come here they say 'In this place, people really pray!'
Secondly, the character of people from Kaniki Bible University College is different from other schools. People are able to say when you see 2 pastors somewhere, if one is from Kaniki, for sure they’ll be able to identify them and say 'That person must have gone to Kaniki Bible University College!' The character formation is emphasised here so it makes this place very unique."
